Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, often called GHB, liquid ecstasy, or the “date rape” drug, is a depressant for the central nervous system (CNS). It was initially used in the 1960s as an anaesthetic but is now more frequently used as a party drug and typically comes in white powder or liquid form.
The effects of GHB are similar to those of alcohol, causing feelings of happiness, increased sexual desire, and boosted confidence. However, using this substance can lead to serious risks and can become very addictive with repeated use. Those who are using this drug quickly develop a tolerance, which leads them to take larger doses.
